The largest concentration of bald eagles in the Lower 48 migrate to feed on spawned-out chum salmon in the Skagit River during the winter months, December to early March. During this time there are as many as 400 eagles counted.
Though not nearly as many eagles as the thousands on the Chilkat River in Haines, Alaska, the Skagit River hosts thousands of visitors every year to witness this annual gathering of the bald eagles.
February 2004, a camera crew from the NBC Today Show program went rafting with Pacific NW Float Trip owner, Dave Button, to film a segment for the NBC Today Show which was featured on air in March.
